Music in Egypt

In Egyptian society. Music is part of the development of its main activities: agriculture and hunting.

In agriculture, percussion is used to organize sowing and harvesting activities since a large number of people are used for this purpose. The percussion marks the rhythm in which the furrows should be opened and the seeds planted, as well as marking the rhythm of the harvest stipulating a measure of time. That is, for the Egyptians music is an element to mark the passage of time and previously predict how many drum beats a given activity will take.

The development of mathematics and music allows us to anticipate certain human activities with a small margin of error.

As for hunting, private activity of the kings and nobles where they would demonstrate physical strength and their skills for this purpose, it was used as in the Neolithic and Palaeolithic in order to attract animals with different instruments or imitation of animals. It was also used to provoke in the hunter a kind of preparatory trance to hunt and then as a ritual dance.

In this way, the Egyptians discovered the use of music in other areas different from the previous stage although they also culturally maintained the prehistoric use of it.
