Ancient Egypt

In our previous article we reached the point where the different independent groups that lived on the banks of the Nile River Delta, come to join in a single community also amalgamating their different cultures. This is how the first civilizations were born.

The video of this article is based on the doctoral thesis of the Spanish musicologist Rafael Perez Arroyo on "Music in the Age of the Pyramids" (this is the book of this researcher), where after 10 years of research together with the researcher Syra Bonet and the Egyptian Studies Center manages to perform an approximate reconstruction of music in Ancient Egypt.

It is very interesting this reconstruction where you can see what has already been said in previous posts about the environment and its direct relationship with sounds. The value of the percussion, the voice and the string instrument. The hot, partly desertic climate greatly influences the music that takes little advantage of the natural harmonics of the sounds due to the lack of echo product of desert climate (the example of the video presents reverberation for being a recording but the fundamental nature of music does not take advantage of harmonics). Recall also that the bow was a weapon widely used by the Egyptians in the war and from there can be deduced the evolution of string instruments characterizing the harp as the main instrument in this culture.

These two videos represent to a great extent the whole idea that we have been developing until now to understand its subsequent evolution.
