Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece dates back to 1200 BC until 146 AD, when it was conquered by the Romans.

Ancient Greece was located in the current Balkan Peninsula (Mediterranean basin), the islands and coasts of the Aegean Sea.

Geographical location of Ancient Greece

Due to its strategic geographic positioning and its rich history of conquests, the Greek arts were greatly influenced by the civilizations that surrounded it as well as the peoples conquered throughout its 1,300 years of history.

As we spoke in previous posts about the war and the conquests , the Greek arts were incorporating to their cultural roots the arts of the conquered cultures, this being the principle of Western music.

The Greeks considered the arts as a fundamental value of their daily lives for which, its development was extremely profuse throughout its history.

The Greek arts and all their evolution were the greatest legacy that the Romans took after the conquest of Greece. As we will see later: Roman art comes primarily from the Greek arts with its subsequent evolution in that culture.
